Jeffrey Segal - Founder/Owner

Jeffrey Segal, the founder and owner of Mystic Journey Bookstore, was born January 9, 1959 in Toledo, Ohio. He moved to Los Angeles in 1965, growing up in Van Nuys, attending University High School in West Los Angeles, and going to Occidental College in Eagle Rock. After graduating Occidental in 1981, Jeffrey traveled back east for law school, attending The Washington College of Law at American University in Washington, D.C. Upon receiving his JD in 1985, Jeffrey went to work as lawyer specializing in environmental insurance litigation (whatever that is!), and continues to work as lawyer to this day.
So, one may ask, “How does one get from being a lawyer to opening a spiritual bookstore?”
Well, it, the adventure, the journey began with Jeffrey failing the bar exam and looking for some “outside” help. It got pushed along by the incessant drive for Jeffrey to have “more,” more position, more prestige, and, of course, more money, and the resulting realization that having “more” did not result inner peace and fulfillment, and that what he truly desired was a different kind of “more,” the kind of that would bring those ever elusive feelings of moment-to-moment joy, contentment, and fulfillment. And it culminated with the proverbial “straw that broke the camel’s back,” the development of cancer and Jeffrey’s subsequent decision to re-direct, re-orient and re-commit his life to Spirit, to the spreading of Light, to the one passion he has had throughout his life, his Spiritual Journey.
And so, while Jeffrey began his spiritual journey, his Mystic Journey, back in 1985, and while his life has been blessed with good fortune – a beautiful daughter, traveling the world, an ability to paint and a successful gallery show, a successful career as a lawyer, and, yes, even his bout with cancer (for it was the cancer that was the true catalyst for Mystic Journey), spirituality has been a part of, in fact, a core part of Jeffrey’s existence for over two decades.
Now one might also ask, “What does spirituality mean to Jeffrey?” The answer to that is this: We are all one. In fact, everything that exists in our manifest world (and all worlds for that matter) is one, and actually is, the One. And if we can all come to a realization of this, a connection with this, a belief in this, then we can begin to move to that place, that space, that existence that is the true brotherhood and sisterhood of Humanity. And if we can begin to enter this realm, then tolerance will blossom, and this tolerance will turn into an acceptance of others and their own paths, and this acceptance will then turn into an embrace, and in that embrace all sense of separateness will cease to exist and all that will be is Oneness, and that Oneness will be experienced as a Unity, and that Unity will only be able to be labeled as Love.
It is Jeffrey’s desire that Mystic Journey be a beacon of Light to help all that enter it doors proceed along whatever path the have chosen to take them to this place of Oneness. It is Jeffrey’s hope that Mystic Journey will become a center of gravity for the community that emanates peace and joy and love. It is Jeffrey’s vision to see Mystic Journey as the beginning of something even greater, something that expands and enlightens and enlivens itself and all those who enter.
