Self-expression is reflected in many ways; through art, music, sports, dancing, cooking, designing, painting, speaking, writing and so much more. It is the beauty and dance of your spirit and the divine within illuminating itself into physical form. When we are in pure alignment with truthfully expressing ourselves, we might go into a “zone” a Zen space where nothing else matters. It is a space where you may feel you are invincible, alive, focused and connected and can master what it is you are doing with grace and confidence. It can also be a feeling that you know you have given it your all and done your best at that moment because you allowed yourself to just be and express who you really are. Whatever it is you are expressing, when it is in truth and vibrating with your authentic self, you can feel it buzzing in your heart and other people can recognize it too, because it is real, it is truthful, it is authentic and nothing can beat that. It is a reflection of the harmonious relationship matching how you feel within with how you act on the physical.
Sometimes we may find resistance and inner chatter that might go against expressing our truth. One of the biggest fears I believe people suffer from is the fear to freely express who we really are regardless of who will accept or approve of us. We can liberate ourselves from this obstructive cycle by being aware of any “perfect images” we have created in our mind that tells us this is how we need to be and act in order to accepted and be loved. Remember that as you keep rising to be the best you can be those people who cannot do the same might by default, consciously or unconsciously, try to bring you down to being mediocre. When we can block out other people’s judgments, criticisms and fears and instead listen to our own intuitive voice and nurture what is guiding us to express itself, we can conquer great things that is in our highest good. When we can live from our heart and express ourselves freely without doubt, we honor and respect our essence; it is an act of self-love and giving to ourselves and making us the individual authority of our feelings and self-expression. We then can allow more of our creative power to flow more easily through us and in and out of how we express ourselves in our daily lives.
How well you know your truth and believe in it will determine how authentic you can be to express yourself fearlessly.
One universal form of self-expression is communication which truly reflects our life as it is mirrored from the powerful words we use to create, the thoughts and beliefs we communicate with ourselves and others, and the non-verbal communication from our body language and actions. How we communicate reflects the foundation of the relationship with ourselves; our integrity, self-respect, self-worth and self-acceptance. We each have our individual truths and perspectives. To have an honorable communication space with ourselves and others is to try to be in a place of compassion and integrity so we can hear the truth, see things as they are and not what we want to make of it. It takes a personal intention to check within to see what it is we truly want to express and create without needing to be right, punishing or blaming someone else or manipulating the communication to get what we want. To have clear communication means to assert our truth and also listen to another person’s truth and to ask direct and clear questions to clear any uncertainty within. Sometimes we might go crazy inside creating stories, drama, and confusion because we are assuming and not expressing how we really feel to get the real truth. Sometimes we might fear the truth and instead stick to what it is want to believe. We can instead choose to have freedom by confronting our silly fears within that not only creates blocks in our communication but in our overall self-expression. The fears really do not have much power over us once we reclaim our own power to live from a more authentic place to create and have a more flowing unity with our inner and outer world.
“…the word is your power because you use the word for the creation of your virtual world. You use the word to create the main character of your story. Every self-opinion, every belief, is made by words…the word is a force that you cannot see, but you can see the manifestation of the force, the expression of the word, which is your own life.” –Don Miguel Ruiz, The Four Agreements
EMPOWERMENT EXERCISE
Practicing Honoring Your Authentic Self
How often throughout your day do you hold back from saying how you truly feel? Does your energy of how you feel match your actions and communication? Are you aligned with your inner core-self and does your expressions reflect that? Sometimes we might withhold our true feelings and self-expression because we become wrapped up with how someone else might perceive us. We might limit our own inner-beauty and diminish our light for the sake of not hurting someone else’s feelings or triggering their nerves for fear of not being liked or accepted for who we are. These fears can control us if we do not have the awareness and intention to move past them. We cannot control how others will feel or if they will like us or not, but we do have the inner power and control to accept and like ourselves and to strengthen our relationship with our truth to freely express who we are.
Start to notice if you have any fears that may be blocking you from true self-expression. This can be in your expression to be more artistic, creative, communicate how you feel, or take the next steps with your career or in your relationships. If you notice any energy blocks coming from fears, I encourage you to play with your fears and confront them by start asking yourself empowering questions that will tackle where the fears stems from. With your awareness you can start to dissolve the ball of energy that may keep you from expressing your truth. Practice direct communication honoring how you feel and what you want. Practice saying no when you feel like really saying no to honor what your true needs are. Notice if you compromise your highest good because of fears. Notice how you feel when you do limit self-expression and notice how you feel when you allow yourself the freedom to express. Bring awareness to where you may feel resistance. Remember resistance is just fear! You can beat the game by applying your awareness and your intent to be freer to express your true self.
